Illinois passes OS-level child age verification law
Illinois has enacted HB5511, requiring device makers, operating system providers, and app stores to collect a child's birth date at account setup and expose an age bracket to apps through an API. Apps that receive a minor signal must enable default safety controls such as restricted feeds, hidden profiles, blocked adult messaging, and night-time notification limits, with enforcement starting in 2028.
