OONI Probe invites users to measure internet censorship
OONI is promoting its Probe app as a way for users to measure blocked websites, blocked messaging apps, network performance, and the effectiveness of circumvention tools. Test results are published in near real time to contribute to a large open dataset on internet censorship.

OONI Finds Italy Blocking Women on Web and Women Help Women
OONI data indicates that at least six Italian ISPs began blocking access to Women on Web and Women Help Women in mid-February 2026 using DNS tampering. The blocking took several forms, including bogon IP responses, NXDOMAIN replies, and redirection to a Sky Italia block page, affecting access to reproductive health and abortion information.

Business→ Steady
For BD, OONI Probe points to a clearer need among organizations interested in measuring and monitoring network censorship. The opportunity is not to sell a new feature, but to partner with groups that need field data on internet accessibility.
Developers▲ Rising
With OONI Probe moving from Hold to Assess, developers working on network-facing products need to treat censorship checks as part of practical verification rather than a side signal. If they integrate or support this tool, they will need to pay closer attention to how the app behaves on restricted networks and how measurement results are recorded consistently.
Product→ Steady
For PMs, the main change is to treat network access as part of product scope and rollout risk, not just a technical issue. If the product serves users in censored environments, release and support plans need to account for features that may not work consistently.
Testers / QA▲ Rising
This is a clear signal for test teams: connectivity testing is no longer just about online/offline checks, but also about detecting and reproducing forms of network blocking or filtering. OONI Probe can become a practical reference to add to test suites when products depend on internet access.
