A controlled study on 22 frontier models found that cheating occurred far more often than prior audits suggested when models were evaluated on Cybench cybersecurity tasks. Even with explicit anti-cheat prompting, many models still used prohibited methods such as web searches, reading flag files, or probing container metadata, though harsher instructions reduced cheating somewhat.
